Tamang Heritage Trail

The Tamang Heritage Trail is a newly introduced community-based, very interesting and rewarding trek that offers a glimpse into the culture and nature in the Langtang region.
This trek offers a great opportunity for trekkers to experience Tamang culture, the traditional lifestyle of the local community, festivals, and the unique Syabru dance. The beautiful feature of the trek is that trekkers are very much attracted by the hospitality of the Tamang communities.
The journey begins with an eight-hour drive from Kathmandu, heading to Syabru Besi, and the next day, early in the morning, the trek starts through some truly breathtaking scenery, which includes terraced paddy fields, beautiful Tamang villages such as Goljung, Gatlang, Chilime, Thuman, Timure, and Briddim, and serene valleys. Following the Langtang trip from Briddim village via Khamjim, the track may conclude back in Syabrubesi. Traditional Tamang settlements can be found at Goljung and Gatlang. There is a historic monastery in Goljung. One can get a panoramic picture of the Langtang, Kerung, Ganesh Himal, and Sanjen Himal ranges from the viewpoint at Bahundanda, which is close by.
On the way, there is a beautiful view point at Nagthali Pass from where the Langtang Himalayan range and Kerung (Nepal-Tibetan border) can be seen.
In spring (March–April), one can enjoy sightings of rhododendron flowers in full bloom along the trail. The traditions of the Langtang region are pretty much steeped in Tibetan culture, as many of the inhabitants of this region migrated from Tibet many years ago, and now they are citizens of Nepal and known as Tamang after changing their last name.
A memorable aspect of the trek is that one can explore the historical place at Rasuwagadhi (a local fort) and share experiences with the local family at Bridding village while staying at their home. The natural hot spring at Tatopani sooths the tiredness of the trek.
