Trip Facts

Langtang Valley Trek

Langtang Valley is topographically flat and wide, located towards the lower range of snow-clad Himalayan peaks close to the Nepal-Tibet (China) southern border. This high and isolated region is inhabited by Nepalese people of Tibetan origin, who follow Buddhism and practice Buddhist rituals. Trekking to Langtang Valley offers an opportunity to explore the ethnic villages of Tamang and Sherpa, Buddhsit monasteries, Himalayan glaciers, and views of Mt. Langtang, Mt. Dorjelakpsa (6990 m), Mt. Lirung (7245 m), Mt. Ganesh (7406 m), and Chinese mountains. There is no flight service like in the other trekking regions. The trailhead of Langtang Valley trekking is Dhunche or Syabrubensi, easily accessible from Kathmandu by local bus or jeep. One can explore the valley by walking through Langtang National Park, which is teeming with diverse flora and fauna.
At Kyangin Gompa, we stop for an overnight stay, and the next day we make an excursion around. We pass through Nubamatang, situated in a hidden valley, on our way up to view the glaciers, which mark the gateway into arid Tibet. In the spring and autumn, the sun shines brightly and the sky remains very clear, but the wind blows wild some time. Trekkers enjoy the perfect view of the beautiful landscape of the valley and spectacular mountains. However, this is the best season for trekking. In winter, the cold is sometimes unbearable, and the trails are snowbound. Only a few trekkers are seen along the trail in winter. While on a trek, one can discover wonderful places with unique cultures and the traditional lifestyle of the mountain people.
