Annapurna Circuit Trekking
Annapurna Circuit trekking also known as Round Annapurna Trekking, is considered one of the world’s top ten trekking trails in Nepal surveyed by National Geographic Travel. The word ‘Annapurna’ is derived from Sanskrit which literally means ‘full of food’ (in feminine form), but is normally translated as ‘Goddess of the Harvests’. In Hinduism, Annapurna stands for ‘the universal and timeless kitchen of mother goddess’, who feeds all living beings. Without her there is starvation, a universal fear; this makes Annapurna a universal goddess.
The Circuit is 300km long and looks like the shape of horseshoe. The ever changing landscapes from humid low-lying rice paddy field, sub-tropical valley to barren mountain plains, a diverse arrays of ethnic culture, traditional lifestyle of the locals, spectacular mountain scenery of Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m), Mt. Annapurna I (809m) Mt. Annapurna II (7937m.), Mt. Annapurna III (7555m), Mt. Annapurna IV (7525m), Mt. Annapurna south (7219m), Mt. Manaslu (8163m), Mt. Nilgiri (7041m), Mt. Fishtail also called Mt. Machhapuchhare (6998m), Mt. Hiunchuli (6441m), Mt. Lamjung Himal (6986m),Tukuche peak (6920m), Tilicho peak (7134m) and the highest mountain pass of Thorung La (5416 m), make this entire circuit one of the most unforgettable trekking trail. From the top of Thorung La pass, a perfect 360 degree view of mountain scenery is captivating to every trekker. The climatic variation from low to higher altitude provides unique biodiversity with various flora and fauna, the scenic grandeur in combination with the multi-culture and multi-ethnic diversity makes this Annapurna Circuit trekking route spectacularly most attractive. The entire route is dotted with villages and teahouses, which offer simple accommodation and food for trekkers. This circuit is also known as the home to many different species of wild animals and birds like Himalayan Thar, snow Leopards, Jackal, blue sheep, pheasant and long-tail birds.
The trek goes counter-clockwise from Besi Sahar and ends at Naya Pul near Pokhara or can make flight directly from Jomsom to Pokhara. For this trek we don’t need to carry camping gear, cooking supplies and set up camp out in the cold on this Annapurna circuit route. While passing through the circuit, Manang Village (3540m) en route is the most suitable place to rest and acclimatize before crossing the Thorong La pass. As approaching the pass next day, one can see the lineage of snow ridges stretch before, while far below lies the sub-tropical Kali Gandaki which is also considered one of the deepest gorges in the world. After crossing the pass, one can descend to a sacred Hindu temple – Muktinath which is also popularly known as the god of salvation Annapurna Circuit trekking can be accomplished during March to May (spring season) and Sept to Dec (autumn season).
